Landitude Incorporated has produced the Land Manager software series to help land managers map, monitor, and analyze valuable data pertaining to their land management activities.
This software is the next generation in precision agriculture technology. Traditional precision agriculture technologies have focused on improving the efficiency of navigation (parallel swathing and auto-steer guidance systems), chemical application (variable rate controllers), and crop yield monitoring. Landitude HE focuses on monitoring the overall efficiency of the operator, tractor and implements, which are the largest variables influencing the overall efficiency and bottom-line of an organization.
The Landitude Land Manager: Heavy Equipment (HE) software has been specifically designed for use with heavy equipment. This software is built into the industry standard ESRI ArcPAD Software, which can also be used for limitless field mapping applications.
Once installed on either a PC or Mobile Device, an additional toolbar is added into ESRI ArcPAD. This toolbar allows operators to easily collect a GPS log of everywhere they used heavy equipment. The software provides intuitive tools for operators to select if they were treating (e.g., had the plow in the ground) or not treating (e.g., did not have the plow in the ground). The software automatically records all stops and prompts the equipment operator to specify why they were stopped. At the end of the treatment, the operator taps the stop treatment button and a statistical report is automatically generated, saved, and displayed. This report provides detailed information on the current treatment day as well as the job-to-date.
The HE reports were designed to provide land managers and managers of heavy equipment companies with a tool that will allow them to easily:
• Evaluate the status of all heavy equipment projects
• Evaluate the productivity of their heavy equipment operators
• Isolate the reasons leading to loss of productivity
Users who are already familiar with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), can generate maps that can be opened in ArcPAD that provide equipment operators with a pre-determined implementation plan that will essentially eliminate the need to have a supervisor on the ground. Once the operators have collected data with HE, these files can be imported into a desktop GIS software for further analysis and display.
The files created by the HE software are stored in industry-standard ESRI Shapefiles, which can be opened by dozens of desktop GIS software packages. As a result, these files can be sent directly to government agencies to expedite cost-share reimbursement.
